Open Gardens Australia is a non-profit organization, chaired by Tamie Fraser AO and sponsored by ABC Local Radio, that opens private gardens for public enjoyment around Australia. Every season, hundreds of private gardens are opened to the public, and are visited by more than 250,000 gardening enthusiasts from all over the country.
Gridstone’s Open Gardens app brings twenty first century, virtual technology to this most earthly pursuit. It also provides a valuable additional revenue stream for this entirely volunteer organization. The app provides a detailed list of all Open Gardens events and related ABC Local Radio programmes. Events can be viewed by date, type and location; and utilizes advanced geolocation services to identify nearby events and provide mapping and driving directions. While the app is available free, up-to-date event listings are obtained through an in-app subscription purchase, with all proceeds going to support the activities of Open Gardens Australia.
